Side Imaging = Good Day

I spent the day out on Lake Ontario alone in the boat but not on the water. Many elite series anglers were out running around marking various spots as they are up for the event next week on Cayuga. By the amount of boats out there I can guarantee weather dependent, Brandon Palaniuk will not be the only one making the run to the Lake from Waddington next year. Onto my day. Since it was one of those days where you can actually drive around the lake without destroying your boat or your back I decided to make a run out to the middle to hit some areas that I had marked on maps that looked good, but I have never been to. The first stop was great. I was rewarded with 3 smallmouth over 5 lbs and a couple of 3 lbers. The fish were in that 34-39 ft range near a steep drop. Feeling good I took off to those other few spots I had marked but on the way there I decided to take a minute and use my side imaging. Good move. Watching the side imagine on my Humminbird 998c I picked out a few rock piles and areas where there were some decent size rock ledges (see pic) Game on. More beautiful smallmouth. I decided not to even hit those other spots and spent the rest of the day driving around slowly finding rock, and hammering fish. I don't slow down and actually pay attention to my Humminbird unit enough, but I did today and it resulted in one of the best days on the water I could ever remember.
