Flipping The V&M Split Tail Beaver

With the water temperature starting to warm up the fish will soon be making their way to the shallows to get ready to spawn. This is when bass fishing gets fun! I really enjoy catching bass ultra shallow during the spring time and my all time favorite bait to use is the V&M Split Tail beaver. This bait is killer when the bass are around heavy cover and you have to go in after them! It doesn't matter if the fish are in grass, under fallen down trees, under boat docks or around rock the Spit Tail Beaver will catch them! I like to texas rig the bait with a 1/4 oz - 1 oz weight depending on how thick the cover is. Generally I try to use as light of a weight as I can get away with. What is so unique about this bait is when rigged with a lighter texas weight the bait will glide through the water as it falls. The design of the tails on this bait is what gives it this special action. The tails are much wider then other flipping baits similar in design. The erratic action that the wide tails gives this bait is something that the bass cant stand! They absolutely eat this bait up! It is also important to use heavy line and a big hook when fishing this bait in the nasty stuff that the bass will get in! Getting the fish hooked is one thing, its getting him out of the thick stuff that's the challenge. Using the right equipment when flipping the Split Tail Beaver will make the experience one that you will never forget. I have had some unbelievable days on the water with the Spit tail Beaver and I will never forget those experiences! Be sure to utilize the great gliding action of this bait the next time you are fishing shallow cover! "Do Whatever It Takes" Nik Autrey

Hey Preston, I did a report on early season jig fishing for bass. It might help answer a few questions! Steve, I know its an outstanding bait!!

Nik, I can't agree with you more. I have had a lot of success with the split tail ****. I do however have a had time deciding between this and the Flippin Hog. Found that here in Florida the narrow body profile gets through the nastier stuff a little easier, but it doesn't have the backwards glide either. V&M has raised the bar on creature baits though. Wishing you the best of luck this 2015 season.
