Early Spring Time Pre Spawners
Braidwood is one of my first open water boating trips of the season due to the ice up in the Midwest. I like to get out there before open water season happens every where else! Braidwood can be tricky throughout the year and has been coming back very well over the past 4 years as a bass fishery. March 1st is opening day there and seems to draw a lot of boaters. For the first week or so I tend to stick by the hot water output side and target rock and secondary points with cranks, jigs, and other shad imitating baits. As the water temps rise after a few weeks of good weather and the power plant pumping hot water I like to start heading to the mid pool or the southern end of the unit/cold side. There I target similar structure like rock or wood in the 5 to 15 ft range. I Have been doing very well on the spro lil john 7 to 10 ft diver while making bottom contact and deflecting off the bigger rocks and wood. This lake is very over looked and can be tough for some people but give it chance and it can produce some quality fish. Who knows you may even see me out there!
