That bait is bigger than he is!

You are fishing down the fishiest bank you can find. A big bite is running through your head. You make a bassmaster classic cast and boom, you get thumped. You put everything you got into it and your lure flies over your head with a fish attached. Atleast you think it was a fish. How could that tiny fish eat such a big bait? Why would it think it even could? Was that fish eating or just being aggressive? These are all questions that run through my head. I believe the answer needs to be figured out before you move on with your day. Look at the scenario and decide if you need to up size your bait. Was it a reaction, an ambush, or a chase? In my opinion if it was a reaction than it would be safe to say that the size didn't matter as much as the location. That fish , no matter the size, was going to strike anything in it's range. I would continue to fish that bait until I caught more fish to compare. On the other hand, if the bite was a slower retrieve and the fish got a better look at the bait then you might up size your bait to get that bigger bite. If you are just out to catch a fish then the lure did it's job and keep casting. Small fish eat big baits and big fish eat small baits. Deciding why they bit will make your day more productive.
