Hair Jigs for Crappie
A hair jig and slip bobber is a great way to catch fish that aren't feeding aggressively. The vertical presentation stays in a fish's strike zone until they can't stand it anymore and gets bites from fish that wouldn't think twice about hitting quicker moving baits.
I can't think of a surer way to catch warm-water fish such as bass, sunfish or crappie in the weeks after ice-off than with this technique.
Gear to use:
-1/8 or 1/16 oz hair jig (I like Punisher brand)
-4 lb test monofilament (Trilene is always good)
-Slip bobber
-Bobber stoppers and beads. I use two bobber stoppers (one above, and one below) and two beads on either side of the bobber so it doesn't get stuck to either stopper.
-Shakespeare or Pflueger Micro Series spin rods work well for smaller rods, the Shakespeare Crappie Hunter is great for a long rod. Pick your preference.
