High water struggles

The struggle is real. I never thought I would say that we have an excess of water, while half of the country is in a drought/dry spell. The Lake County night tour kicked off it's season opener Saturday April 18th and I was a little worried. The water levels in the Clermont Chain of lakes are up almost 7' compared to last year. Add to that, our daily rainfall season is quickly approaching. Why was I worried? With the water levels up, fish have moved into areas that have been dry for a decade, if not a bit longer. They now reside in a tangled web of Carolina Willows and other marshland foliage. It's is quite disheartening to watch 5lb bass blowing up in the thick cover and having no way to get to them. With the high waters comes some of lowest weights we have seen win tournaments on this chain. While I am glad to take a 1st place spot, I didn't like the fact that it was won with 7.86lbs and 2nd place with 4.43lbs. This tournament produced numerous 17-20lb bags and one 27.3lb bag last year. Speaking with the other angler, the one commonality we all faced was, the fish have moved back and there is no way to get to them. On the upside, the V&M Bayou Frog and the 8.5" WildThang pulled all 4 slot fish and numerous dinks. To give you an idea, my boat is sitting over where we used to put out our weigh station and canopies and was roughly 3' deep. Until next time, be safe and Tight Lines
