Walleye Is Spinning Time

If anyone out there knows me, well they know I predominately, use Casting rods and reels when fishing walleye. In the early part of the season when walleye are in the post spawn blues and sulking on the bottom, I pull out the Spinning gear and get to work! I start off by choosing a Meduim/Hvy to Hvy action 7' to 7'6ft rod matched up with a good quality spinning reel and the most important thing is the Fluorocarbon Line! YUP Flouro! A lot of people use Braid for the following technique. I use a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce Buck tail jig usually Black or Black with white, In most cases people throw out there jig and give it a ripping jumping kind of retrieve, this works well when there is emergent grass, and heavy edges, but in early season there is more sparse cover and the fish are nose down into the bottom. I use a slow stop and go retrieve and when I feel the lure contact cover of any kind I will give the rod a short snap upwards, this is when I will usually get bit! I feel the Flouro keeps the bait down in contact a little bit better than braid resulting in more hits. Try this technique next time your out! Good Fishing!

I just can't deal with the stretch when ripping. especially in the milfoil. I do use the fluoro leader though, your right about the better contact.
