Long weekend fishin

Well here we are the Long weekend is almost over and as per tradition this is the weekend where we try to fill our freezers with perch and have a little fun with the carp at the local ponds. If you have been out for perch lately on Lake Erie then you know that the severely clear water has caused this to be a very difficult season. Hundreds of boats matched with high sun makes these fish move almost as soon as your on top of them. We started our long weekend on a high note getting a 2 man limit in some of the dense type fog i have ever experienced. The advantage to having the fog was no one could see me from a distance so my spots were safe, although i did invite a man and his friend to anchor down near us as he was having problems with his GPS and did not want to see a boater get lost out there. The high light of the day was when my partner pulled in what has to be the fattest perch i have personally ever seen. She was all spawned out but stretched to the limit. On Sunday we thought we would head out to the same spot except this time it took me an hour to find them and with the high sun and clear skies mixed with approximately 200 boats the perch were extremely finicky. We ended up with 65 keepers between 3 of us which was fine for us as we had already had a few good days out there. Today I received a text from a buddy that he was headed to a local pond in the early morning. Knowing that the carp spawn is about to begin i was game for this. Although i was hoping for a bullhead the commons kept me busy and the shirt and stocky carp pictured was one of the highlights. Now that the temperatures are rising we will probably start to fish the marinas and old cuts of the USA side for Large-mouth bass until the Canadian season opens. Tight lines everyone and may your next catch be a personal best
