First trip on Lake Michigan

With the winds finally subsiding and switching out of the west, I took advantage of this to break in my new Mercury 6 horse kicker and was some lures on the big pond today. I started in the same area I have a lot of success last year but I only had a few marks and no takers. I decided to run a little deeper and check out a sunken ship (Lumberman) and after that was a bust I turned straight onto the Oak Creek Power Plant and while monkeying around with another rod my fishing partner yelled "there's one!" I turned to see my Shimano TDR bowed over. Once I got the rod out of the holder I looked back and saw a very nice steelhead tail dancing ontop of the water. After a 10min fight where it spent more time out of the water than in the water it was in the net. This steelhead was in the 12lb class range and as fat as it was round. After that I decided to call it for a day. Overall I was very happy with my new kicker and can't wait for Salmon-A-Rama July 11-19th. I just have a few more things to add to the boat and I'll be completely set up and ready to go.
