Cold Front Walleye

Saturday's Weather: 32C, Sunny, light West Winds Sunday's Forecast: 10C, Rain, 20km/h North Winds Right in the middle of one of the worst cold front swing's I've ever experienced, we decided to set out in search of walleye on a Kawartha lake. Understandably, my expectations were moderate at best. The game plan was to target mid-early season spots with fresh weed growth. Crankbaits were first on the menu, but following up with a jig and grub can usually do the trick if plan A fails. Well, Plan A didn't fail. We consistently hit quality walleye, which we found up in the water column along weed lines. WIth 68F surface temps the fish were still quite aggressive even in the ugly weather. Crankbaits were the ticket, reeled slowly with frequent pauses. Oddly, the hits were actually very aggressive even though a slow approach was key to getting bit. Most fish were in the slot, with a couple under-sized and two quality over fish.
