The Ned Rig ...

Since the beginning of the year my home lake, Lake Mead, has been changing dramatically. We have had a dramatic "water level drop" like no other. I would say the water has dropped 50 plus feet. Due to this change, fishing has been tough and the fish are more finicky then ever. For the some that don't know, Lake Mead is one of the toughest lakes on the west coast. Lake Mead has water clear enough to see every detail on the bottom 40 ft down and every little vegetation. Most of the fish are caught near some type of structure mostly in the shade of boulders or ledges. In my opinion, I think most anglers would go straight to a drop shot in these conditions. To be honest that's exactly what I did/do but over the years "Drop Shot" and I have had a love hate relationship. I bet most of you guys have the same relationship too. A few months back I saw a video on YouTube of this old guy, Ned Kehde from the midwest, talking about this new rig that was developed to catch fish like no other bait. After watching the video I knew that this rig was the ticket to change my fishing game on Lake Mead. If you haven't figured it out yet, the bait is the "Ned Rig" by Z-Man. After watching the video 100 times, I ordered a couple of different colors and hit the lake. While on the water I started with my go to search bait but had no success. I finally decided to pick up my spinning rod rigged up with the Ned Rig and threw into the water. After putting all the tips and tricks I learned from the YouTube I had my first bite. I caught a almost 1 pound smallie. I was a little discouraged, thinking this would be awesome for my four year old to use but I kept on fishing. After a couple more catches of small fish I wanted so bad to pick up another rod but I thought least I'm getting some bites. Being a little discouraged I threw out and to my amazement my next bite was a 3 pounder. Now I was pumped and had more confidence. I started to catch fish after fish and my limit started to grow. By the end of the day I would say I had a 18 pound bag with my biggest fish pushing 5 pounds. I'll tell you what, after going out a couple more times on the lake and using the Neg Rig I still had the same success. I don't think I'll be using the Drop Shot as much anymore. So if you are having that love hate relationship and having some lake problems go out and buy the Z-Man Ned Rig. I promise you won't regret it and watch the YouTube videos. Thanks for reading HAPPY FISHING!!!
