Detroit River may 31

decided to go out on the river for some multi species angling. The walleye run was seriously winding down on the upper Detroit river so I decide to head to the lower river and catch them before they head back out into Erie. launching in the upper river, I fished the mouth for 2 drifts picking up 20 or so white bass and one walleye. Met up with a friend at the marina who mention he wanted to fish crappy in the after noon on the lower and I told him id meet him there. After arriving in the bay we choose to fish, the weed beds were just growing in and there wasn't much cover other than scatter boulders new growth weeds. Both boats started to cast small jigs and grubs working them quickly back to the boat. I could feel soft hits almost every cast and I was missing the tail on my curl tail grub every 3 cast. Realizing quickly the fish weren't in a chasing mood I started to dead stick my jig 3 feet under the boat in 5 feet of water as I drifted with the wind parallel to the shore with berkley powerbait minnow and a ribbed worm This technique worked like a charm caught 2 decent slabs and some large Panfish in till the sun started to set. I headed about a kilometer away back into the river were there is a straight 25 foot drop off 5 feet from shore with humps made 2 passes with a Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper and a 3/4 oz green jig and caught another 5 walleye and a nearly 10 lbs greater river redhorse before heading home.
