Skinny water trolling

With the recent west winds, a pile of four year old chinooks have made their way into the shallows along the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan. Anglers from shore are having fun tying into 10-15lb chinooks while casting spoons and soaking alewives on the bottom. I got out yesterday morning with an old high school friend who recently got out of the Marine Corps and had action right off the bat. No more than 5mins after setting lines my down rigger started screaming line out so much so that I could barely get it out of the rod holder. That one ended up being a 16lb chinook. As soon as I made a turn to head back to shallow water my 6 color went screaming with a 15lb chinook. Josh took one more 14lb chinook before I went over a shallow reef and hooked into what I was looking for during salmon a Rama. While making a tight turn to head sout my three color shot back like I had bounce bottom with my spoon but I quickly realized that was not the case. A 16lb brown trout was at the other end. Once I had him in the net I was happy but extremely irritated that this fish didn't come a week ago because it would have been a money fish. With the live well full from just those four fish and the wind starting to kick up, we decided to call it a morning. 4-4 in three hours of trolling was a pretty good morning in my books. I just hope these fish stick around for the brew city tournament August First.
