As I have recently moved to the Dallas region, I have been excited to be within a 1 hour drive of 4 lakes. This allows me more time on the water outside of Tournament schedule's. Ray Robert's has always been a decent lake and has produced quality Bass for those who know where to go and get them. The past few weeks with water level being up and this heat, fishing has been really tough. As I find water temp being between 84 and 90, one would think to go deep. I have recently been throwing everything but the kitchen sink as I see them on the graph but can not get them to bite. With the heat getting to me I slowly move towards the bank to grab some shade. When I am 3'-5' from the bank in 3' of water under some shade with water temp showing 90-91, I see Bass chasing bait, sitting, and not around any shade or structure. Now this is middle of the day time so at this point my head has exploded into what we call a "what is going on" moment. It didnt matter if I picked up a square bill, chatterbait, swim jig, tx rig, or a shakey head, these fish want to eat and they want to eat away from where past experience tells us to go, Bass Fishing 101 tells us to go, etc. What I got out of all this was never forget the shoreline. These Bass were not jumping, busting, or anything. They were simply feeding and out smarting the Angler.
