Pigeon Lake Fishing Trip Report

On September 15th I headed to Pigeon Lake Resort for an overnight father and son fishing trip with my 7 year old son Keenan. Prior to booking the trip I did some on-line research and Pigeon Lake seemed to be exactly the type of fishery I like with tons of fishing species including small mouth, large mouth, walleye, and muskie. I left Burlington about 8:00AM Saturday morning and arrived at Pigeon Lake Resort around 10:00AM. I checked into our 3 bedroom cottage, launched my boat, chose a boat dock near our cottage and did a very quick tour of the resort before hitting the water. The owner of the resort gave me a hand drawn fishing map that served as a starting point for our plan of attack. We fished some spots near what's called "The Big Island" and caught quite a few perch and rock bass right off the bat. It was fun but I wasn't catching what I was after. After a few hours touring around Big Island we decided to head in and grab an early dinner. When I thought I was close to my cottage, I realized I didn't recognize any of the marinas or restaurants along the shore and got really concerned as I began entering a lock area. I was completely lost and had no clue where I was. Luckily I marked a way point nearby our resort hours previously and was able to navigate back to Pigeon Lake Resort in about 30 minutes. We headed out about 9:00AM Sunday morning and targeted Muskie for about an hour. I was throwing a mepps 5 spinner with a red bucktail and Keenan threw a Storm creature bait. After casting was unsuccessful we trolled for another hour around the marked hot spots and had no luck. We spent the next few hours hauling in perch and rock bass in about 5 feet of water in thick weeds near our resort. Although we didn't catch any muskie like we intended, it was a great 2 days on the water. I'd highly recommend Pigeon Lake Resort. The staff were extremely friendly and the cottage was clean and spacious. It's everything you'd need for a fishing trip. Ken

Sounds like a great time none the less Ken. I'm sure Keenan had a blast just the same catching Perch and Rock Bass.
