TOUGH GO

getting tons a reports and a lot a people shakin there heads on how tough the fishin has been so far. some get lucky and strike gold but for most its just small fish . I got out all last weekend and now this weekend and finally got a decent fish. 4.25lbs. strangely enough this fish was or just finished spawning... fins and belly all red and fresh. rest a day was like 2lbers. so I gonna assume with a earlier then normal opener and the weather the fish are somewhat behind.... the weeds and pads sure are.

You got that right on teh money I'd say Scott, things are just a bit behind. I'd say ice out was late for sure and even at that the spring we had was reallu much cooler than "normal" (whatever that means). The mass-majority of largies spawned weeks ago, but its not uncommon for some late spawners to pop up from time to time. I once caught a 6.19 largemouth on Strugeon lake in a "Snowflake" tournament in late September that actually spewed eggs from her vent while she was laying on the deck?? These eggs weren't viable or anything (they were kind off colour and "gilatinous")but just goes to show ya...
