BPS, I will be back!

I had a really good time at this event this year, even with the weather blowing! My main goal coming into this event was to get a top 10 and improve from last year's finish. This was Jeff and I's second year doing this event, but are determined to hoist the trophy in the coming years. I started practice knowing right away the fall turn over had not happened so this means there is fish everywhere and I mean everywhere! So I started doing a ton of side imaging with my Humminbird 1198 and not much fishing as I thought my best bet was to mark as many "NEW areas as I figured my old stuff would not have fish showing up for 2 weeks later. The key was marking good areas but then going over them to see if I could actually mark fish with the sonar, after doing this for a few days we had 5 spots. The day started out with us dragging tubes and had a 4lber in the boat with in the first drift! The rod and reel was the real secret, with the wind raging it takes sensitivity away from your performance so using the most sensitive rod was key! We used Shimano Crucials and Cumara's in a med heavy action in 7'2 in length. The action is key because you want to really set the hook hard with little give on long line senarios. The next important thing is the Shimano Sustain 3000; you want a 3000 for the extra line capacity for letting out a ton off line in certain circumstances and PowerPro Superslick 10lb with a flouro leader as you want a no stretch set-up. On the next drift I had one buttoned on a crankbait and played the fish for quite a while until it came unbuttoned! After that we saw the area dying so decided to move on, when we arrived at are next area we also boated a fish right away on a dropshot with a Jackall superpin-tail 4 in the silvershad colour around the 5 pound mark! It was noon and we were struggling but getting the right bites. On the next pass Jeff sets into a jumbo not being able to move it for a while, but at the same time comes un-done. At 2pm we make a call to run to a spot that has good ones, but not always LOL. We get there and they were lighting the Humminbird 958 up, we boat back to back 5pounders within 10 minutes!! We then lose one and immediately gives me a sick feeling as I know I blew are last chance to get are 5th in the boat witch proved to be VERY costly. We get back disappointed thinking we really blew it, but to are surprise we had almost 19lb for 4fish and ended up leading the tournament almost to the end! We ended up finishing 3rd with 4 fish and I am still in shock writing this, as that is by far the toughest I have ever seen Simcoe fish that time of year. Losing the tournament by 1 fish that we had on 3 times hurts but that's fish'n and Congrats to the frost's on a TOUGH day!

Congrats on your finish. It was difficult for sure out there, the fish won the battle with me that day.

Aargh! When the bulk of the field was begging for bites certainly sounds like you guys had the win on the line. Lost fish can kill ya in any event, especially under such the extreme poverty-bite that Simcoe showcased that day! Congrats on the top 3 finish, and thanks for letting us in on your day out there!
