High Mountain Adventures For Brook Trout

In the summer months, when its blistering hot and we are in need of a change of environment and temperature we head to the hills that tower over the Methow Valley. As we head north up the East Chewuch past farm land and cider houses, we follow the Chewuch river as it narrows and becomes a tributary called Boulder Creek. Miles and miles of sling shot casting this small stream only 8ft wide will bring you to Tiffany Lake where the journey begins to join the Chewuch River and Methow River. The tactics are simple and rewarding. I like to park the vehicle and rock hop up stream sling shooting a tiny orange stimulator in small pools. The cutthroat and brook trout are small but very aggressive and will crush just about anything you lay in front of them. It's also a perfect place to master your tenkara fishing skills if your just getting into that and for the kids its a great chance for them to see a trout rise to there fly up close and personal. The fish in boulder range from 8 to 13 inches in length but ever so often, if your lucky you might find a solid cutthroat just a little bigger. The creeks natural falls, pools, and water slides make for a great place to take a dip when it's 90 plus degrees. At the head of the small creek is Tiffany Lake. The Cutthroat and Brook Trout are plenty full and at times you can find the lake boiling with fish slurping bugs off the surface. A productive roll cast is a must and if your thinking you would like a floatation device, a kick boat would be perfect. This Methow Valley fishing option is great and is a must if your visiting the valley and like to hike and fish. The Methow Valley offers many different high mountain fly fishing opportunity's that only require a little hike but yield big rewards.
