Later today, I plan on hitting a few of the most overlooked places, retention ponds. I like retention ponds! They are often overlooked by most anglers that I know, and happily fish by kids. While nowhere close to the age of your favorite lake, they can, if old enough, still hold a valuable treasure. I have seen many nice 6-8 pound fish come out of retention ponds. They benefits of them can actually be better than a decent lake you know of. You can generally fish the entire pond in several hours. They have almost none of the pressures of a big lake. Most are only mowed to within 4 ft of the shore so cover is all around most. In Florida at least, they did most deep, I have seen several that were dug for the filler dirt to facade bridges, now we have new 50 ft deep ponds. They are similar to the quaries up north, very deep, very fast ledges and generally speaking, not a lot of debris in them. You usually have several storm/runoff drains going into them and the foodchain seems to start right there. Well, its getting close to the time I want to leave and fish, so I will sign off, but will fill you in when I get back. Until then, Tight lines: Steve Update: Didn't fare so well on this venture. I assumed I knew what to take with me, since I've been there so many times. I made the fatal mistake that left me with only 1 small bass. I took two presentations, neither of which worked. I should have planned a little better and taken my small tackle bag off the boat, instead of only two baits. Lesson of this: Complacency is the first step for failure!! I will be going back later in the week, this time fully prepared, and an assortment of presentations.
