The North GTA Bass Anglers hosted the first annual Balsam Lake Open Pike Tournament on Sat. This inaugural event boasted a very respectable 33 boat field and the fishing was as it is at most tournaments great for some, good for others and tough for some. The tournament organizer, Jim Pezzetta along with his crew of volunteers did an amazing job in putting on this event!

My partner Russ Watkins and I had an tremendous day, we caught over 35 pike along with the odd incidentally walleye. Unfortunately our best five fish was only good enough for second place! Our main pike killer on this day was a Pointer 100 protected by a Stringease titanium tippet. We caught all our fish in 4 to 9 feet of water. We literally caught fish pretty well everywhere we went, it was just one of those days! We just couldn't get that one big fish to put us over the top!

Congratulations to Rob Jankowski and Jay Toms, this year's champions and all the other money finishers. Big Fish was measured in by the team of Frank Bevilacqua & Peter Gos, it went 85 cms.
