Top Fifty in Huntsville on the weekend
Mary Lake ON
May. 23, 2012 4:33pm
I fished the Top Fifty series on the weekend in Huntsville with Clint Hurd. The fishing was pretty tough. Lots of fish in the shallows, but not many of them wanted to bite.

We managed to get 5 fish Saturday on Mary Lake which wasn't easy, only 3 teams got 5 fish. Luckily our 5 were bigger than there's and we won the Mary Lake event. Mary Lake is a good lake for pike fishing but the amount of productive spots are limited and the fish get spooked with all the boats trying to catch them. It would be a great lake to fish when there's less boats on the water.

On Sunday we fished Vernon, Fairy and Penninsula Lakes in Huntsville. Here their was a lot more productive water available. The competitors got a lot more spread out and lots of big fish were brought in. The fish seemed more cooperative on Sunday. We caught about 12 pike, our 5 biggest were good enough for 7th place.

On both days Rapala Husky Jerks did most of the catching, I tried lots of other baits but always seemed to go back to the Husky Jerk.

I spent Monday and Tuesday on Cache Bay prefishing for the big Cache Bay pike tournament. I think 1st for this event is a couple 4 wheelers (that would be nice). Over 200 teams in this event. The prefish went well but I didn't see or catch any big fish. Limits shouldn't be a problem but getting a big fish will be the key. The water level seems to be back to normal on Nippissing. It should be a great event, I'm fishing this event with Roger Tetrault.

Watching you catch those unactive pike was fun, I'm glad the other
teams in the area didn't know how. Should be a lot more fun this
weekend in Cache Bay chucking blades.
