Big O trip
Lake Okeechobee FL
Jul. 22, 2012 11:04am
Reel Used: Shamino
Rod Used: Custom
Line Used: Power Pro 65lb braid
Bait Used: Naked swimmer
The water level was pretty good for this time of year. I hit a gator in the pig trail behind kings bar on the way to tin house cove, but as long as you stay on plane the trail is passable (12 to 18 inches of water in the lowest spots). The water temp was up and the bite was off. I caught 15 bass on the first day and 10 bass on the second day, with the biggest one being 2 1/2 to 3 pound. My wife caught 4 on day one and 1 on day 2. I used a crank bait and a spinner bait briefly in the morning with no hits, then switched to a naked swimmer, (5 inch swim bait) which both my wife and I caught all our fish on. I fished several spots but did not slow down and flip which may have been the technique needed to get a big one. There was a ton of Gar and some Mud fish in all the area's also. I started fishing around 7 am and finished around 11 am, (the air temp was low 90's by then).

Steve, it's hard to stay on the water when it get's that hot! Time to
start going @ night, throwing the double blade buzz bait and a big
black jitter bug. won't get many bit's with these baits but when ya
do, big pigs on the line! besafe out there! tight lines.
