I am active fisher, hunter an outdoor enthusiast. I enjoy fishing for all species of fish but am most passionate about Steelheading, which I have been actively perusing for approximately 5 years now. Although I have been quite successful thus far, I still refer to myself as a newbie to the sport as I’m constantly learning new techniques, trying new baits, and fishing new waters. I enjoy passing on my knowledge of the sport to others who don’t normally fish for Steelhead, especially ladies who I find to be very intimidated by such a large fish. The joy of helping them land their first is always overwhelming.
When Steelhead or Salmon can’t be found in the local tributaries near my home in Orono, ON, I chase them, along with other species of fish out on the open water. Be it Lake Ontario for Rainbows, Kings and Lakers, or a smaller body of water for Walleye, Bass, Pike, and Panfish, I truly enjoy the time spent on the water, even if I’m not catching anything at all.
That being said, I don’t fish competitively, I fish only for pleasure. The sights, the sounds, the smells - Mother Nature is such a beautiful being if you just take a moment to really take it all in. And then there’s the heart pounding exhilaration of watching your float go down and hooking into a tank, the laughter and smiles when surrounded by good company and the reward of tailing that sought after prize and releasing it back into the deep green icy cold waters. All the while you just forget about everything else in your life and focus on that very special moment – that’s what Steelheading is all about and why it is such an important part of my life.
