Tough day on the Pond

After a pack action adventure last week we were looking forward for the same as we ventured out last Wednesday. The marine forecast was 5 knot wind which is perfect for someone like me who has the habit of up chucking. I still put the Transderm patch behind the ear incase the weather changed. Thank goodness I did as the forecast was very wrong we were into 10 to 15 knots winds with large swells. Very tough on the body boat and gear . Today my plan was to stop using the successful AP Herring Hot Flash and start using the other designs. We varied our down riggers depth from 140 -200 feet trying to locate the big boys. We we very successfully catching salmon but they were all undersize. By noon the weather did an about change and became calm. Lots of boats out but didn't see anyone with salmon. This was opening day for ling cod so some took advantage and changed their gear and target. RigRap lockers aloud me to quickly and easily change to various AP Tackleworks Spoons. Normally difficult when being tossed around with the wave and wind gust to tie up lures from scratch . The RigRap Locker aloud quick selection and easy change up. Unfortunately we still only caught small chinooks. We decide to quit around 1:30 pm and started to troll home. I changed to another AP herring spoon called the the Pearl . I then dropped the lure to 200 feet and sat down. I wasn't paying much attention when I notice my line released from the down rigger . I rushed to the rod and it felt like a keeper . After a nice fight it was a keeper . Good enough for supper. As usual the main player was the Amundson Savvy Sumo Lieutenant Mooching Rod with the the Trend X5 Mooching reel. There is allot of pressure on the line being dragged 200 feet deep and the the X5 mooching reel drag did not slip .
