Striper Action on Chaleur Bay

Last week found me on my annual family vacation in New Brunswick. Naturally, being that close to the Atlantic Ocean, I had to go fishing! My wife's cousin Todd set up a day on the water for us with a friend of his. He took us offshore to try and track down some cod but unfortunately, they proved to be elusive. We did however catch a bunch of mackerel. While we were out there, we saw all sorts of sea life from crazy diving Gannets, a porpoise, a whale and even a seal! Around lunch time, we moved towards land and into the mouth of the Bathurst harbour. Talk about a feeding frenzy! The Stripers and seabirds were going crazy feeding on schools of sand eels and other bait fish. They were biting on every lure I threw at them from top water to buck tails to swim baits! The smallest was about two pounds but most were between four and eight pounds. The owner of the boat caught one that topped the scales at ten pounds! We spent three hours just drifting through this feeding frenzy catching fish after fish! On a couple of the drifts, all four of us hooked up at the same time! It was a fishing day I will remember for a while! Thanks to Todd for setting the day up and thanks to Kevin for taking us out in his boat! I look forward to my next visit! Hopefully we can do it again!
