Trip Winner- Great Slave Lake

Last year, I posted a contest being run by Canada Fishing Guide Magazine in partnership with Frontier Fishing Lodge where entrants had the chance to win the fishing trip of a lifetime on the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, NWT. One winner. One week. On one of, if not the premier lake trout fishery on the planet. Let's just say we had a lot of entries... I knew that I would probably be guiding the winner, but I hadn't really given it much thought. So, when I was notified by Mike Borger, the architect behind C.F.G. Mag., that the winner was a full-time fishing guide out of Michigan named Greg Knapp, I had to chuckle. Here was a guy that literally spends 250+ days of the year on the water working his butt off to put his clients on fish. Whether its trolling Lake Michigan for Kings or working the local tribs for steelhead, I can understand the daily grind of a fellow guide. For my money, this guy was the perfect winner, and very deserving of a trophy fishing trip on Great Slave Lake. Not to mention how B A it was going to be to fish GSL with 2 other experienced guys who spend the majority of their life fishing! I liked our odds.. I dont want to get too much into the specifics of the trip, as Mike has already done a very good job of that in his report on the Canada Fishing Guide Website. Which you can read here : http://www.canadafishingguide.net/trophy-fishing-in-canadas-far-north/ However since I did post the contest on here, I wanted to share the end results with everyone! When I talk to people about fishing on Great Slave I often get asked "how many big fish am I going to catch?". In my mind, after years of guiding in what I think we can all agree is a productive fishery, I have learned that there are no promises in fishing. There is no way to answer that question because there are too many variables- weather, health, and skill to name only a few. You can never truly know what your going to experience before you go, and to be honest, I think that's why many true anglers enjoy the sport. The best I can do to answer questions like that for people, is to show them what others have experienced and let them decide for themselves. For his first remote fly in trip, I think Greg did pretty good!
