Lake Simcoe Outing!

Its a late report, but still... lol. Went up to Lake Simcoe back in late January/ early February for the first time in a few years. Took my fiance, Ashley and ur 3 year old son, Lucas. This was Luke's first fishing trip, EVER! The little guy was excited as can be! So, even though myself and Ashley have spent thousands on gear, lol, rather then load up the new hut she got me for xmas, and the new auger that was beside it that morning.... Ashley wanted t rent a hut all so she didnt have to walk out to the spot. Little miss princess had to have a drive out and a pre-heated hut. Women..... lol. So, called up Terry Goy and had a hut reserved for the sunday morning. Alarm went off, much to my dismay.... haha, and up we got. Got ready, loaded the gear in the truck, made coffee woke Luke up, got him ready and off we went. got to the lake about 9am, met up with Terry and got out on the water. Fished 18' of water, which was crystal clear. Left my underwater camera at home, because i couldnt find the piece that holds the cable, keeping the camera at a certain depth. Having the Humminbird Ice55 there was helpful when fish started to move in. Being able to see down to the bottom was fun for Lucas, as he could see the fish. Dropped Luke's line down first, and before we could get urs down, he screams, "DADDY, I THINK I GOT ONE!" and sure enough, he pulls up his first ever fish, an 8" or so perch. ALL BY HIMSELF! He put on a pretty good clinic with the perch and had a great time! We caught a ton of perch, but sadly, couldnt get anything bigger then about 10" and we only had 2 or 3 perch that size. Most fish were 6-8" but kept us busy all day. Fish were caught on small jigs tipped with a minnow, and a jiggin rap that i was using. We packed it up around 3pm, because lucas gt excited, and stepped on the side of the hole in the floor, did a Denis Savard, Spin-O-Rama and landed rear end first in the 1x2 foot hole in the floor, on the ice, where the two, 10" holes were cut in the ice. Soaking him good. He was scared cause he thought he was in trouble, mommy was scared cause she thought he was gonna get a face to face visit with the perch, and me.... while i laughed. Dont worry, Daddy was smart and told Mommy to pack spare clothes. A quick change, and he was good to go.... aside from having no socks and boots now. Put his snow suit back on, wrapped his feet in my hoodie and Terry drove us back to shore. We stopped at a store and got him some new socks, so we didnt look like completely horrible parents! Just to cheer him up and complete his fish filled day, we stopped at Bass Pro Shops on the way home and walked around for a while checking things out. BPS is Luke's DisneyLand. He said he wants his birthday party there!! Am i a proud daddy or what?!? Weather was great for the day, Sunshine and light winds. Great day with Ashley and Lucas. They both caught lots of fish and had a fun time. Too bad the winter sucked and we havent got the ice we're used too though. Looks like ill just have t get the big sticks out and get ready for pike and catfish!! Hope you enjoyed! Please follow me and say hi!!

Hey Darrell! You should bring your son by Bass Pro Shops on march 24th or 25th. It is kids fishing day. There will be a trout pond set up, and I will be teaching the kids how to fish! I will also be doing seminars on the big tank. I also have a local television show where I promote youth fishing. I would love to have him on the show! Message me if you would be interested!

I enjoyed your story Darrell. I am glad to see we have another up and coming angler. He and I have something in common. I was about his age when I stepped in the hole and soakedmy foot and had to ride on the snowmobile 20 miles back to the house with my dad.Funny how you remember these things. Thanks Darrell.
