True athletes of a sport
Many of us have seen professional athletes whether top of the game or decent player. Most have attitudes and entourages that wont let you within 10 feet of them. As we set last night for the Alabama High School BASS pre tournament meeting. I heard someone talking and then asked if the seats were taken. It was Randy Howell, yes the 2014 Bassmaster Classic Champ. He sat down talked to the kids and adults like we were old friends across the way Chris Lane, here amongst us set 2 top level competitors of BASS. Yet they had no posse of bodyguards, no line for autographs, nothing. We fish a sport of competitive Bass angling. Yet they are not here to boast or brag, nor do sponsorship promotions, they are here as parents for their childs Bass team, we are all equal at that moment and we realize we share a passion for our sport and pass it on to our youth. We set through the meeting, shared laughs, jokes, and fishing tales. Once it was over we got up shook hands and left. So many times pro athletes forget their roots and reasons why they compete, its great to see Dads being just that "dads", and not being the cold, item promoting athlete. We fish this trail and have these run ins constantly with these anglers its great to see the kids having a positive role model that isnt to good to sit back and talk to everyone and not be a spokesman.
