Got home late last night after a long grind yesterday on the lake. The wind was howling in the opposite direction of the current in the river which always makes things interesting. The day started off great as we netted a 6 lb fish in the first 10 minutes. The live well was full by 8:15. The bite then shut off completely, like a light switch. It was time to scramble. The key to today was moving around and going to the worst area to fish as far as winds are concerned. We traveled to the mouth of the river feeding into Lake Erie. There we were presented with 3 ft chop coming into the river. Not many boats were there because boat control was very difficult to say the least. We managed to stay vertical with 1/2 oz jigs. It was good practice with two Streamside Jigging rods in your hand and running the Minn Kota Terrova. I was using the Berkley 6 lb Fireline Fused Crystal. This line is incredibly strong and low Vis for clear water conditions. Out of respect for NPS, I will not mention other products being used here due to conflict. I will be doing a video blog later today about the plastics being used, very exciting new stuff. Check back on my website later www.gethookedontario.com. The move and grind lead to two more upgrades(twin 6.5 lb walleyes). We ended up with 27.4 lbs for a 5 fish limit and no juice left in the trolling motor batteries. The decent day moved us up to 40 th spot out of a 100 boats. Didn't get the big bites on the tournament days. We are happy as we only had 3 days to prefish and it was our first time on this system. We were fishing against guys with years of experience there not too mention some who's who in the Walleye tournament fishing world. Everything is 3 weeks early and the big females have already moved back out to the lake. Based on the weather, my boat(1850 Raptor) not big enough to tackle the snarly Lake Erie. Lots of big boats with 300 HP motors too. All in all it was fun and I am now getting ready for the next tourney in a few weeks. Team Canada vs Team USA walleye championship(AIM CanAM) on Lake Superior down to Lake Huron. Should be a blast and lots of water to cover. A few NPS Pros will be competing in this great event. Go Team Canada!
