Diggin' for Hogs

As far as tablefare here in the Gulf of Mexico goes, Hogfish are about as good as it gets. Anchoring over rock piles and ledges in depths ranging from 30-90 feet and deploying live shrimp or small crabs is the key to success. My gear of choice is a 4000 size Stradic or Spheros with a fast action spinning rod such as the Shimano Trevallas. Braid is a must as these tasty critters have a very soft take when they devour your bait below. These fish put up a great fight and they are unmistakable when you have one on.

Thanks Brad, they are a crazy looking critter huh? But IMO the best tasting reef fish in the gulf.

That is awesome Steve. I've never seen anything like those fish before.
