Giant Fall Bass

You don't hear as much about big bass being caught in the fall like you do the spring. Fall fishing is often a tougher bite, especially the big ones. However, they are still out there, and possibly a slight change in strategy will put more big ones in the boat for you this fall. One reason a lot of guys don't catch as many big fish in the fall is because they're fishing in the wrong places. Majority of fisherman are in shallow water targeting bass that are chasing shad. This approach will probably provide a little more action but not necessarily the big bite. If you want to catch a bunch of bass, go shallow, if you want to catch a giant you may want to stay deeper. Big bass tend to be loaners and stay in the same places during the summer, fall and winter which are very near deep water. They relate to deep points, breaks, drops and channels. The biggest dominant bass really only seek shallower water in the spring to spawn. I know there are some diehard shallow water fishermen out there that do very well year-round in shallower water. I just believe and tend to have more success at catching bigger bass off shore. You have probably heard the old saying "Go big or go home. This remains true when going after these off shore giants. The fall is a great time of year to throw big swimbaits, jigs, spoons, and other large profile baits that mimic the baitfish on your particular body of water. Chasing big bass can be challenging this time of the year. Spend some time out fishing a little deeper water than most anglers target this time of year. You may not load the boat, but when you do connect, it makes all your efforts worthwhile.
