Slow day with a BIG finish.

Saturday morning started off slowly. We were fishing the flats near the boat launch throwing jerk baits and not having much luck. Most of the time on calm days you can see the Smallies cruising through looking for an easy meal, but we were not spotting anything so I turned the boat towards a corner of the bay that is lined with a wall where some condos are built. I shore fish there often and you can see the Smallies swimming through on their way to the deeper water. The corner was covered with matted up weeds so I figured it was a good possibility that there would be something hiding in the dark. I grabbed my drop-shot rod, rigged with a 3/8 ball weight, 3 foot tag to my 4.5" Dace Bento, on 10 lbs fluoro. I casted tight to the wall next to the weeds and started twitching. The pickup was light but I could see my line swimming sideways so I reeled down and set the hook. I could immediately tell that I had a good fish on, so I backed off my drag a bit and started playing her in. When I finally got her up to the boat I realized it was gonna be the biggest bass of the year for me. A clean net job by my boy and we had her on the boat. To my surprise it was a beautifull Largemouth, 21 inches and over 6lbs. This is why I love fishing because you never know whats gonna happen next.
