Poacher Season
Creek watch 2018 started today in Oshawa and it didn’t take me long to find a gentlemen (old enough to know better) in the wrong. I had planned on taking my boys for a nice walk to see some spawning fish and enjoy the nice weather but we also had a brief chat about the rules and regulations of fishing and a refresher course of how and why they need to be followed. I came back to the scene later to find a stressed hen in the slack water and eggs scattered on the bank. I wish I had noticed while I watched this gentleman pack up his rod and leave. I would not have been so forgiving with my verbal warning. I don’t forget a face or voice, I’m sure we will cross paths again. Hopefully on legal grounds to save him the shame and financial repercussions of the MNR. I helped revive the hen and she returned to the bank she was plucked out of. With all the reports on poaching and non-law abiding sportsmen these days, you would think some of these guys would get the memo. The “Oh I didn’t know, I wondered why I was the only guy out!” Excuse isn’t going to cut you any slack.
