Quality And Quantity

My buddy Bobby and I hit the water early the other day looking for some crappie. The bite has been good for numbers but we were looking for quality. The wind was predicted to pick up mid day so we hoped to be tired by noon and on our way home. We launched the boat at sunrise and made a short run to a brush pile located in 11 feet of water. The fish were stacked pretty good so I started pitching a chartreuse/pearl "Live" Baby Shad by Lake Fork Trophy Lures. The fish were responding well and the quality was right. The majority of crappie at this spot were in the 11-13" range with a few pushing 14". As the bite tailed off, a simple switch in colors fired them back up. This played out for about 30 minutes until we moved on to the next location. We hit a couple dozen waypoints with good results but it wasn't until 11:15, at our last stop, that we found what we were after. Every fish that hit the deck was over 12" with quite a few over 14". Our final tally on the crappie clicker was 131 with a number of bonus non-target species. All fish were released to finish up the spawn but better look out in a few weeks!
