Summer Dragon Tails

Texas summer time heat can make you down right delusional. I went out on my local lake this week and had to check my glasses a few times. Fishing down a mix patch of lily pads and grass I noticed what appeared to be huge bass launching out the water. At first it was quite a mysterious site as I couldn't gather a single bite on my surface bait. Upon closer inspection I began to notice a trend in the air and the fish reaction. I began to see what was drawing the massive blow ups I saw. Dapping the surface all around I saw dragon flies and surely as they dapped, a bass would follow up with a leap or surface strike. It was rather interesting to see the biggest bass in the pads totally ignoring the schools of blue gill swimming around only to turn and take small dragon flies sometimes right out the air. By this time I managed a few on a small fly popper I found in my tackle boxes but a great site on an summer sunset.
