Spring Steel
Went out with a buddy today and had a decent day, slower than anticipated again.
Today was good because we hit 2 rivers and the second I haven't been to in about a week, its got nice colour and a few fish. I got 4 and Jake got 3. I shouldn't even have brought roe bags because of the 12-15 hits we got only 1 was on a bag. Pinks and beads(in faster water) seemed to do the trick today.
Sorry I didn't take any pics but I didn't want go get my hands wet, they froze today. I guess the only thing of note was that I caught a real dark 6lb male that was dropping back, probably the most beautiful colours I have ever seen on a steelhead, I regret not snapping a pic.
A couple of things that helped put some fish on the hook was targetting different parts of the run, the head, tail out, working the short, mid and far part of the run and also structure(working each side of a bolder and underneath a down tree).
I just want to stress checking and double checking your knots when tieing them on, after fighting/landing a fish and after snags. You want to make that they are strong, that the line isnt frayed and wont break off during your next encounter, it could be the only fish of the day, fish of a lifetime, etc and at the end of the day it is worth the extra 10 seconds to check you rigs.
