Smashing the lake trout on Berkley minnow Jigheads
Finally I got out and did some fishing to test some of my new gear out. I hit up one of my favourite late season lake trout lakes for the day; its an incredible numbers spot I enjoy guiding. I got on the late before sun up and left just before dark. What a day it was... we Iced 13 lake trout all under 6 pounds and missed atleast that many as well unfortunately. What a great day.
Most of our fish were caught on the 8cm ripple shad with 1/4 ounce Berkley minnow jig head. Most times I'd just let it straight sink the 50 feet down to the bottom. BANG! if it didn't get smacked right when it hit the bottom I'd slowly start popping and reeling it to the surface with occasional pauses and drops back down.
I just started using these jigheads for ice fishing and they are incredibly effective and reliable. Super sharp and can be used in a variety of ways. This time I used the Ripple Shads in chartruse glow with them. The lakers were banging them left right and center. Great swimming action and very effective it seems on the lakers through the ice off a barrel swivel tied with 6 feet of 8lb Berkley Vanish.
We let the majority of our fish go but also cleaned a few small ones up for shore lunch.... Two of the lake trout I cleaned had undigested soft plastics lodged into their bellies which was pretty wild but it sure isn't the first time I've seen it.
Be sure to give the Ripple Shads and Minnow Jig heads from Berkley a try! Thanks for reading, following, and using the quality reliable products from Berkley
Good luck out there and be safe!

Nice fish and thanks for the tips. Definitely going to have to give those a try if I get out again this season.
