Gaspereau River Striped Bass

The Gaspereau River is located south of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. It runs through a 15km section of Kings county known as the Gaspereau Valley. The area was named by the Acadians 3.5 centuries ago along with the migrating fish that run up the river every spring. A commercial fishery for Gaspereau still exists. A much saught after sport fish prey on the Gaspereau... stripers! Tonight was my first hook up with a small striper using a streamer fly. The river is tidal and I chose to head to a pool at low tide to see if any were holding between high tides. Landed the one, missed a hook set in another. The bank of the pool where I was is laden with large stones and rocks from an old bridge support. Most of the river banks have steep, soft, deep mud. The river bottom is gravel. My Streamside Spirit Pro Wading Boots with studs were perfect for the transitions. My Streamside Quadra-Tex Grand Chest Waders are perfect for all the kneeling, hiking and fording. My Streamside Tranquility/Harmony Gold combo is by far the best fly rod and reel I've used for these fish and cannot wait for the larger stripers to move up the river. My collection of streamers were tied by prostaff Ted Pace and they work! Cheers!

You like the Streamside rod setup for stripers, do you? I'm looking forward to trying for them soon! Nice little schoolie, by the way!
