Pike tournaments are a blast
Saturday was my first soft water tournament of the year, I fished the Barrie Bassmasters annual open pike tournament on Sparrow lake, didn't fish it last year, but placed 2nd place 2 years ago, I was hoping for good things. The day was quite overcast and chilly in the morning so I was expecting a slow bite, but quickly found out that the fish were agressive and ready to play. By 9 we had our 3 fish limit and wound up culling 8 times, not to mention the other species, I caught waleye, bass, and a ling, and lots of follows, baits of choice for the day were the swim'n'jerk by lunkerhunt with a stealth freedom takle jig head, which I basicly just brushed over and around weed beds in a bay that I've generaly done good. If you've never fished sparrow lake, give it a try its quite the great fishery, do be aware or your surronding and do not fly around this water as there are sunken islands and bolders just about every where all though quite a few are marked. All in all a great day my partner and I managed to bring in 12lbs for 3 fish which put us just outside of the money, in 9th place out of 37 teams congrats to the winners which came in with 15.5 lbs.
