2013 Renegade Bass Classic

The 2013 Renegade Bass Classic is in the books, another couple great anglers crowned and a bunch of hard working anglers made it a great tight interesting race to the finish. Corey & I had agreed to not shaving for the previous two weeks leading up prior to the Classic. Its the post season. In years past we had never been able to hit the twenty pound mark due to lack of execution. We sure had those kind of quality fish on our lines but we couldn't get them to the boat. This years pre fish basically told us what we were going to do from the start. We couldn't get onto a solid shallow bite. Instead we were going to venture to the depths to catch our fish. Now everyone knows us as shallow water Largemouth experts but we knew we had to go outside our realm to possibly have a shot at winning the Classic. So I ended up finding a pretty solid area that held pretty good sized deep smallmouth. Day 1 we weighed in at 20.73lb. We were under 3lb out of top spot going into day 2 sitting in 12th place. We knew this area would or had potential to pump out more solid key fish. Day 2 we weighed in at 20.79lb. We finished 6th with a total two day weight of 41.02 with a day 1 dead fish penalty. We over came adversity and went outside our realm to surprise the field. We now have an appreciation for deeper fishing and now have a new world of potential ahead of us. We got to sit in the Ranger boat for about 8 minutes before a team bumped us out of the leading position.
