Rd1 SBS 2017

I recently competed with Terry Parmenter in round 1 of the Southern Bream Series which which was held on the Shoalhaven River. The start and finish was to be held from Greenwell Point which is near the mouth of the system. This system is notoriously a tough location and once again, it unfortunately didn't disappoint :/. With the rising tide, we decided to chase the waster up into some oyster racks and Mangroves at the back of Comerong Island. This spot has the potential to yield a respectable bag if the moons align........no moons aligned this day. Once committed, we fished right up into the mangroves for only a couple of bites and a few Flathead. The first few hours were slow and a move upstream was decided. We shot up as far as the canal and fished a rock wall that most teams pass by. The sounder lite up with bait all the way from the surface down to 6m. Whist chatting to an angler fishing from the shore, I came up tight to our first legal Bream. Not a huge fish but it was a Bream and that meant points. This was the only Brfeam off this spot with a couple of Flathead and Tailor also gracing us with their presence. A move was in order sop we headed further upstream to fish some weed beds and flats. First stop we fished some shallow weed beds with surface lures and soft plastics. A couple of undersize Bream were soon caught but unfortunately nothing legal. We then shot up to a flat that performed for us last year, but once again......undersize Bream with a couple of crosseyed fish which missed the surface lures. A cross over to a deeper drop off slow rolling crank baits saw this Estuary Perch smash my lure......a couple close calls as it ran under the fallen tree which it came from before it was lead into the net. (Fish of the day in a Bream comp.......) We decided to head back down to the canal to find other boats grinding it out to try to tempt one of the few Bream in the system. We drifted the southwestern edge for a couple more Flathead then continued down to the rock wall downstream. With the last cast of the day, I came up tight onto our second legal Bream for the day. Put it in the live well and we headed back to the weigh in. Our bag of 2 Bream weighed 0.69kg which put us finished us in 21st position from a field of about 60 teams.
