One of the most important things we use on the water can't be replaced.....your eyes. Every year in the U.S. there are more than 100,000 eye injuries reported and of that number 42,000 require emergency room visits. Fishing accounts for 9% of the injuries, hooks to the eyes are 38% of that number. On the bright side of things 90% of all sports related eye injuries are preventable. Sunglasses are a very important part of your equipment. A lot of people are uneasy about spending big bucks on sunglasses afraid they will wind up at the bottom of the lake. Many people would choose to buy many pairs of cheaper sunglasses rather than buying more expensive ones. One of the most important things to remember is to buy polarized lenses. You also need to pay attention to the color of the lenses you buy. For low light conditions most will go with light brown or yellow lenses, for bright conditions use dark grays, green or blue many will have mirror finishes. There are many different companies that offer good polarized sunglasses such as Oakley, Strike King, Costa Del Mar, Wiley X and Solar Bat. Unfortunately for those that wear eyeglasses they are very limited, Cocoons are probally one of your only options. If you do spend the money for quality sunglasses make sure to buy yourself some sunglass retainers, I prefer Chums because they will float. A friend of mine could have really used some last year while we were fishing at Kentucky Lake. As we blasted across the lake he forgot his Oakley's were on top of his head, now they are laying on the bottom of the lake. See you on the lake and good fishing.

Good point Chris, glasses are a necessity on the water and in any project you take on.

Hi Chris, this is so true and VERY important! I wear glasses all the time, not just when its sunny or running the boat but when fishing and its cloudy as well...I can think of a few times that the ol glasses saved the day from being a disaster...When a hook rattles off your lense it sure makes you greatful you have them on for sure! Only have the two eyes! no gettin em back once their gone! Great Tip!!
