Ice Cold Conditions
After reading all the reports on successful steelhead fishing, I retracted my statement from an early post. I put down the ice fishing gear and got the steelhead equipment out from the basement. Little did I know, old man winter would show his face on the one day I decide to hit the creeks. The -13 degree temperature and 8 to 10 inches of snow that fell in some area's last night made for tough fishing conditions today. I hit my first spot at first light and had to break slush and ice just to get a drift. The water clarity on the lake wasn't to my liking for bottom bouncing so I ventured from trib to trib fishing almost anything I could get a line in. The constant slush flows, line ice up and cold fingers made for a frustrating morning but I did still manage to land a nice male. All in all, had great company and if I could, I'd go back tomorrow despite todays results. The cold front had given the fish lock jaw but we all know, they're in there!
