If you are like me....you are always looking for the newest magical bass bait in the ever expanding world of fishing lures. To this day I still absolutly love testing and catching fish using a new found bait or technique. Recently I have discovered the magic of the Jackall Cover Craw. For the past two months since opening day of the 2014 Ontario bass season I have had one tied on and been catching bass everywhere I have fished. The Cover Craw is one of those baits that does not look like much but catches fish. It can be fished several different ways with great success. What makes it so unique is that it can be rigged to glide away from you ! That is right....rig it backwards on a 4/0 EWG style hook with no weight. The Jackall Cover Craw has been designed loaded with salt to be heavier in the tail section of the body to make it glide backwards when rigged weightless backwards. Rig it weightless and backwards....pitch it to your favorite piece of cover....give it some slack line and let it glide on semi slack line.....once the craw hits the bottom..... lift the craw and.give it some slack line again then let the Cover Craw glide away from you up under the cover. You can yo - yo the craw inplace a few times before making another pitch (if it makes it without getting eaten !!!) slowly take your rod from a 3 o'clock position to a 12 o'clock position then drop your rod back to a 3 o'clock possition to give slack towards the craw. This technique has been working extremly well this season with the high water levels making docks and trees prime structure being tight to the water surface. I usually fish the Jackall Cover Craw on two different rod and reel set-ups. I like to have a craw rigged on a spinning rod for skipping technique and another on a baitcaster for pitching to heavy cover. As for spinning I prefer to use a GLoomis 7'1" m/h fast action power 2. There are several models to chose from. The spinning reel of choice is a Shimano Stradic CI4+ in the 4000 size spooled with 20lb Power Pro line with a 17lb test 3ft fluorocarbon leader. I prefer the 4000 sized reel due to the large spool face which makes the line fly off very quick and smooth. As well the larger spool and gear ratio sucks up the line in a hurry. I have also had great success fishing the Cover Craw the traditional way of Texas rigging. Fishing the craw on 50lb Power Pro, 4/0 straight shank hook, 3/8oz Ultra Tungsten worm weight. My rod of choice is a 7ft - 7.5ft heavy action GLoomis pitching rod paired with a Shimano Chronarch CI4+ bait casting reel. I have caught fish on all the colours made but my favourites would have to be bulk/red, June bug and green pumpkin candy. These colours have produced for me. Just pitch the craw to cover or dunk it into heavy mats........then hold on!!!! Grab yourself a few bags of Jackall Cover Craws and head on out to your favorite body of water. www.jackall-lures.com www.shimano.com www.gloomis.com
