Bartonek and Sevink Secure a Spot in Renegade Bass Classic with First Win at Big Rideau Lake

bartonek and sevink secure a spot in renegade bass classic with first win at big rideau lake
July 18, 2015: Rideau Ferry, Ontario

Leading up to the second qualifier of the 2015 Renegade Bass season, Peter Bartonek and Craig Sevink were unsure if they would even be able to fish the event on Big Rideau Lake out of Rideau Ferry Marine. Running into boat problems early in the week, the duo lost precious pre-fishing time on the water, but was able to have the boat repaired in time to get some practice time in and be ready for the blast off on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Bartonek and Sevink turned the bad luck into good fortunes by bringing 18.39 pounds of smallmouth bass to the Shimano in-water weigh scales to claim the victory, the first for the team in their four seasons fishing the series. The key to their success was focussing on shallow water smallmouth, using St. Croix rods to chuck SPRO McStick Jerkbaits to draw in the attention of aggressive biters and Angler's Choice "Killshot drop shot baits to entice the less aggressive fish. Their strategy paid off earning the team a $4,000 first place check and a guaranteed spot in the 2015 Renegade Bass Classic, where one team will walk away with a 2015 Ranger Z119 Boat rigged with a 225 Horsepower Evinrude G2 Motor and equipped with a Motorguide electric motor and Lowrance electronics, valued at $60,000.

With two events now in the books for Renegade Bass' twentieth season, and Bartonek and Sevink already assured a spot in the Classic the team will now focus on maintaining their slim lead in the Team of the Year race over the remaining 2 qualifiers.

The regular Renegade Series takes a short pause for the 1000 Islands open, presented by Hookset Marketing. The three day open event, with a guaranteed purse of $100,000 and a Ranger and Evinrude boat package worth approximately $60,000, runs July 30 “ August 1 out of Ed Huck Marine in Rockport, Ontario.

The action then returns for the third qualifier, held on Mississippi Lake in Carleton Place, Ontario on August 8, 2015. Following the weigh in, the location for the 2015 Renegade Bass Classic XX will be drawn. There is additional excitement as on Sunday August 9, 2015 Renegade will again be hosting its Pro-AM Tournament and the 10th annual Renegade Bass Kid's Fishing Derby at the town docks during the day.
