Early Smallmouth & the Wifes P. B.
Loaded up the wife and dogs and headed down to the lake for some early season Bass fishing. The water temperature was in the high 40's and the water clarity was slightly stained. I was throwing a chartreuse spinner bait and the wife was throwing a black spinner bait. We fished through the morning with no bites until about noon when the wife hooked into a very good fish. She battled the big smallie to the boat on light tackle where I was able to net it for her. We weighed in her fish at a very respectable 4lbs. 12 ounces. This is her new personal best for smallmouth and is a great fish for our colder northern waters.
We traveled across the lake to another area with some sunken structure. Traveling across the structure and fishing parallel to it we caught 3 more smallmouth on 3 separate passes across the structure. By this time the wind had come up pretty hard and we decided to call it a day.
It was a great early spring fishing trip.

That's almost a 5 pounder! Oh, and Dave won his first tourney shortly after this.

Congrats, a 4.12lbs Smallmouth is a true brute in most waters
