NEW Amundson Trend X3 reel

Just returned from a week's fly-fishing for pink salmon off the beaches and estuaries on Vancouver Island, I used a 6-wt Thompson Chaser rod and the new Trend X3 reel. This combo was GREAT! It performed flawlessly. The Thompson Chaser rod proved to have a really good bottom end and it helped a lot when I needed to get the fish in, especially in current. The X3 reel was a real nice surprise. It is a new offering this season from Amundson and it combines the best features of the original Trend (like enclosed reel housing and saltwater warrantee) with the sealed drag of the Miramichi Demon reels. This proved to be a great combo. The drag performed smoothly and flawlessly and the solid bar stock aluminum body had no issues with the saltwater or sand. Amundson has come up with a solid winner in this reel. I hooked into dozens of fish that put the reel and its drag to the test, both in the current of the estuary as well as in the open ocean and did not experience any issues at all. Check it out. At its price point it is a good piece of equipment.
