Bassmaster Central Open
Practice was very slow catching 5-10 keepers a day but the fish were very scattered. Water temps were in the 50-54 degree range. I caught them on a Bagley deep diving Killer B in a crawfish pattern, and a 3/4 oz chartreuse and white Santone spinnerbait . On day 1 I covered a lot of water and landed 13 plus lbs and was in 24th place with 200 pros fishing. Day 2 was even tougher for me as I only weighed 4 fish and ended in 34th place finishing in the money. I fished the same pattern both days sitting in about 12 feet casting at a 45 degree angle to the rocky banks alternating the Bagley crankbait and slow rolling the spinnerbait. I had a mixed bag of Largemouth, Spotted, and Smallmouth bass, each day. My rod selections were a McCain 7"2" medium graphite cranking rod with the Bagley Killer B, and a McCain 7'2" medium in the Tommy Martin Series for my spinnerbait. The extra casting distance with these rods were key for me.
