Happy Balance

Its that time of year again where most of us start thinking back on the season past. For me it was a season that had both its ups and downs. After coming off a fantastic 2013 season, I had hoped to be able to continue the trend. But sometimes things just don't work. Last year my tournament partner and I invested a ton of time on the water, learning new techniques, different baits, fishing deep, and finding new structure and spots within spots. This year was a bit different. We decided at the beginning of the season to take a bit of a step back and not pre-fish as much and spend some much valued weekend time with our friends and families and just get out on the water when we could and have some fun. And honestly, I had a great summer. I took some time and did a few small road trips in and around New Brunswick with my better half Pam, got a few more things done around the house and made some great memories fishing for brookies with my dad. I guess what I'm talking about here is finding that even balance of my time being a tournament angler and giving time to those I love. I have witnessed a few of my fellow anglers struggle with this for years and ending with not so happy results. I also admit that my first couple seasons were a bit crazy. Late nights out going over strategies, working on boats and gear. Being out on the water EVERY weekend pre-fishing. My wife is an amazing woman who is very understanding and supports my addiction 110%, knowing that its what I truly love to do. I consider myself to be very very lucky this way. It was difficult finding that happy balance of time spent but I'm glad I found it. I would recommend to any young up and coming hardcore angler, find that happy balance early and you will enjoy your time on the water that much more.
