West coast adventure. Strahan, Tasmania

When the weather comes good on the West Coast of Tassie, you just have to drop everything and go and that's exactly what we did recently. Day one we spent on the Stripey grounds where we scored our quota of Stripey to 8kg, one nice School Shark plus some undesirables including Cod, Morwong, Ocean Perch. With a glass out expected for day two we headed for the shelf to try for a Swordfish and on our second drop we got tight to something substantial. Fighting on 24kg IGFA tackle the fish stayed deep for the first hour before angling up at speed but without showing itself. It then headed back to the depths. Seeing this we were thinking giant Sword. For the next 4 hours the fish stayed deep until we finally managed to inch it up and to our dismay it wasn't a Sword but a big Thresher Shark that had unfortunately died on the line. Still an awesome catch and such impressive creature but not the giant Sword we were after. This great fish certainly didn't go to waste though and are awesome on the plate too! Next time Swordys, next time.
